    Dear Sir:

The purpose of this letter is to register my protest vehemently about a headline CNN wired around the world, ÒTaiwanÕs Ôscum of the nationÕ runs for president.Ó This head-line lacks any evidence of professional journalism but it supports the construct that CNN is resorting to yellow dog journalism.

I was appalled and resented, when a President of a South American country, referred to President George W. Bush as a ÒdevilÓ. I take the same indignation when CNN refers to Annette Lu, Vice President of Taiwan as ÒscumÓ.

In the interest of maintaining the high standards of professional journalism , I strongly recommend that CNN publicly apologize to Vice President Annette Lu and to the citizens of Taiwan and to the second generation Taiwanese citizens of the United States, for your lapse of professional standards of journalism.

If CNN does not opt to publicly apologize, then some may conclude that CNN is also on the payroll of the Peoples Republic of China.

I am sure that CNNÕs sane minds will prevail and will resolve this issue as suggested above.

    Sincerely,

    Tony Teng, President

    Welcome to the Patriot Night
Ted R. Anderson, President of Friends of Taiwan

    July 02, 2006

Distinguished Honorees, Guests, and Patriots All:

As President of Friends of Taiwan, Inc. and on behalf of the Board of Directors, we welcome you to this event in the ÒSpirit of 76Ó. Two hundred and thirty years ago the forefathers of our county filed grievances against the King of England which became known as the Declaration of Independence. The leadership of the 13 colonies clearly affirmed their support of the Declaration of Independence by stating: Òwe mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honorÓ. These men were true patriots to their cause and their patriotism was not questioned..

This week is ÒPatrioctic WeekÓ and we must not forget that wherever your ancestors may have their roots, you can have undying loyalty to your birth right country. The men and women in the military forces of the United States of America are the vanguard, the heroes, that protect and defend our American way of life. We have with us tonight a second generation Taiwanese woman that typifies loyalty to the United States of America.

Welcome to an educational and entertaining evening.

Orange County has always been considered a very conservative community. Therefore, I cannot understand why the majority of city council members have such a compelling passion to engage in international intercourse with China by getting in bed with the communistregime. Collective, the city oof Irvine has no other recourse but to respond to the communist government, one China and one Taiwan!

    Noblesse oblige!

    Appreciation Night
    Taiwan Center
    Rosemead, Calif
    April 29, 2006

Appreciation Night was held at Taiwan Center, Rosemead, California on Saturday, April 29, 2006. Although its scene was not quite like "people mountain, people sea", there was no empty seat and only standing space was available inside the auditorium. Friends were glad to see their old buddies. Every body was talking and laughing. The atmosphere was festival.

The foods were plenty and delicious. The line of waiting was long. The room were nicely decorated. Flowers were on all tables. The table clothes were in green. Its symbolism certainly cheered up every one in the room. People were well dressed and acted in mature manners.

The shows were no-Hollywoodistic, yet, they were very Taiwanese -- the folk dancing was genuine and the songs were touching. Miss Taiwanese-American and its princesses were gorgeous. The keynote speech was great. The award presentation was sensational. Good men should finish first, not last. A powerful statement, Friends of Taiwan did just that.

The night was great. One thing was very sure --not a single person was taking a nap all night long. It was a great night. Indeed, it was an "O beautiful" night.

Bernard Weintraub's Position Paper on Taiwan's joinning WHO

Mr. Bernard Weintraub was invited and has breakfast with the TECO officials to discuss the strategies for Taiwan's joinning WHO on May 9, 2006. The following is his position paper.

Suggested Position Paper on the Role of Taiwan in an Era of Avian Flu

    1. Taiwan as a Center of ResearchTaiwan should consider devoting a significant portion of its health resources to research on Avian flu with the goal of becoming the preeminent world wide repository for the latest data on the status of this disease.

    2. Taiwan as a Resource Taiwan needs to establish itself as the premier resource to the world as the country to turn to when the latest information on Pandemic influenza is sought.

    3. Establishing a Data Base
Taiwan should establish and maintain a world wide pandemic flu data base on the internet, whereby scientists could learn about the latest available information on the subject and researchers could post their findings. The data base should be developed in conjunction with the one maintained by the World Health Organization. It must be made clear that this effort is to supplement and not supplant the work being done by WHO.

    4. Funding Avian Flu Research
Taiwan needs to encourage and fund Avian flu research It needs to take the lead in this area. It should host frequent world wide symposia inviting world renown researchers to come to Taiwan and share their findings. Taiwan should publish these results and distribute the results of this research on their website and at medical conferences worldwide.

    5. Effect on Business
There is great concern in the business world about the effect of Avian flu in the workplace. This presents a tremendous opportunity for Taiwan to host a Pandemic flu summit for business leaders from throughout the world and invite the leading researchers and health experts to come to Taipei to discuss what must be done if and when a pandemic occurs. Business leaders are very concerned for their work force and for the viability of their enterprises in the event of a prolonged world wide pandemic. There is a crying need for leadership and it Taiwan does not step in to fill the void, some other nation will.

    6. Taiwan as the Premier Resouce for Asian Flu
All of the above should be done with a view toward establishing the nation of Taiwan as the world leader and information source for Avian flu. If done properly and in a low key, it is inevitable that countries throughout the world would recognize and admire these accomplishments. The obvious goal of this would be recognition by the nations of the world working with and through the WHO. If done without the involvement of Taiwan, it could be the source of enormous pressure upon the PRC, Outside pressure with a world wide basis would be most difficult to explain away or resist.

    7. Recognition of TaiwanÕs Contributions
The world needs to appreciate and value the contributions that Taiwan makes globally with its demonstrated leadership. Helping to educate and advise nation as to the dangers inherent in a pandemic and the preventive measures needed in the event of an Avian flu outbreak, is a prime example of that leadership.

    8. And Finally
Why are we doing this? What is our ultimate goal?

We are doing this with a view toward establishing the nation of Taiwan as the world leader and information source for Avian flu. If done properly and in a low key, it is inevitable that countries throughout the world would recognize and come to admire the unselfishness of these accomplishments. And it could and should be the source of enormous pressure upon the PRC since such efforts could not go unnoticed by the World Health Organization.

    Respectfully submitted,

    Bernard S. Weintraub, MPH

FOT, joining overseas Taiwanese organizations, condemn Pro-China faction's attempt to betray Taiwan
The following is the joint statement:

Overseas Taiwanese unanimously support constitutional governance and the rule of law; condemn pro-China factionÕs attempt to create social unrest and political crisis with the aim of betraying Taiwan and appeasing China.

First of all, we the overseas Taiwanese resolutely support the rule of law and constitutional governance. Anyone who has violated law must be vigorously prosecuted according to law. However, in the absence of any evidence of such violation, oneÕs reputation should be legally protected. This is especially true with regard to the head of a nation. Unsubstatiated rumors and accusations could lead to social unrest. Taiwan has cast away the authoritarian rule of the Chinese Nationalist Party. Criticizing the head of a nation is no longer a crime for imprisonment or death penalty. However, in a democratic country under the rule of law, impeachment of a president must proceed according to the constitutional procedure. No political party should usurp its legislative majority to recklessly make such a proposal-this, in order not to cause social unrest. Today, the impeachment proposal of the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) and PeopleÕs First Party (PFP) has no basis in law. It is a conspiracy, concocted by the pro-China demagogues, political parties and news media, to sow unrest and create chaos in Taiwan. These sinister forces, through collaboration with China, batter Taiwan from within and without, with the eventual goal of betraying Taiwan and surrendering to China.

Since the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) won the presidency in a democratic election in 2000, the pro-China KMT and PFP have never accepted the essence of democracy nor genuinely played the role of a loyal opposition. Instead they constantly abused their legislative majority to assail the administration and block important national policies and legislation. In 2004, following the re-election of President Chen Shui-bian, KMT and PFP turned their disappointment into madness. Not only did they cast aside TaiwanÕs national agenda, but also colluded with pro-China media to produce untruthful news in order to attack the Taiwan government and President Chen himself. These pro-China demagogues not only failed to look after TaiwanÕs national security, but also repeatedly attack the budget for national defense. They even, one after another, made their way to Beijing to pay homage. KMTÕs ÒFive MustsÓ policy, publicly announced by KMT Chairman Ma Ying-jeou, is basically a strategy to betray Taiwan. He publicly ingratiated himself with China, claiming to be a friend of China. In view of the 800 ballistic missiles China aims at Taiwan, Ma is really an enemy of Taiwan. Now he is teaming up with James Soong, who also paid homage to Beijing with his China visit, to recall TaiwanÕs president and create social unrest. Clearly these pro-China demagoguesÕ loyalty lies with China. Their wish is to give Taiwan to China, to allow China to annex Taiwan.

We the overseas Taiwanese unanimously condemn the pro-China demagogues, political parties and news media for their disregard for TaiwanÕ national security and their attempt to create constitutional crisis and social unrest. We insist that all litigation must be carried out according to the principles of democracy, rule of law and constitutional governance.

We the overseas Taiwanese call on Taiwanese people to recognize the Taiwan-betraying conspiracy of these pro-China demagogues, political parties and news media. To safeguard life and property and the welfare of TaiwanÕs future generations and to save them from being enslaved by China, we call on all Taiwanese to stand up now to defend TaiwanÕs democracy, rule of law and constitutional governance.

Mr. Ted Anderson, the President of Friends of Taiwan, Visited
    TECRO in Washington, D.C.

On February 27, 2006, Friends of Taiwan, Inc., President Ted R. Anderson and his wife Bernice M. Anderson, paid a courtesy call on the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in U.S.A. (TECRO). FOT President, Ted Anderson, arranged a meeting to be received by TaiwanÕs Representative Office prior to departing for Washington, D.C. to attend a national conference. Ted Anderson and Bernice Anderson were graciously received by Stanley Kao, Deputy Representative and Dennis Y.F. Lei, Officer, Political Division of TECRO. Deputy Kao, a career diplomat, was very clear in stating that there should be more Friends of Taiwan organizations; that Taiwan needs the support of FOT, Inc., and looks forward to our continued endeavors in support of this struggling democracy, Taiwan. As the Andersons were leaving this beautiful official office building identifying Taiwan, tears came to their eyes. There were no flags on the outside of the building. No Taiwan flag or a USA banner was flying. As we drove down "Ambassador Row" on the way back to the hotel, every country on the "Row" displayed their nationÕs flag and the USA flag. For a country that has its own elected governance by the people, military, economy, and internal organizations to care for the needs of their constituents is a nation. So citizens of the world, lets stop playing political games and recognize that TAIWAN is a NATION!

He hope that this report will erase the Taiwanese negative legacy and assert that Chinag Kai-shek be responsible for this incident.
